Oovoo (Blog post 1)

Oovoo is a free high quality video chat that is offered to all and everyone who wants to chat face to face with up to 6 people over the internet. It is a tool that is rising in today’s growing technology resources. It was founded in 2006 by the entrepreneur Clayton L. Mathile. it currently has more than 25 million users worldwide, and is progressively growing .Oovoo is used in both the social and the corporate world of America. Many people have crossed over to using this program rather than skype because the video quality is so much enhanced. It was released in 2007, in competition with ichat, skype and other video chat systems. It can also be accessed through android, iphones and ipod providing real time voices and images.

Oovoo has many different features in which the registered users can access after signing up for free. Users have the advantage of “Video calls, Video conferencing, Web video chat, video messaging, Instant messaging, phone calls, desktop sharing, file sharing and video call recording (Wikipedia, 2011)”. It is not only used by couples and families who are separated by long distances but large and small corporations are increasingly using the program for important meetings. Users can create status’s and build credit on the program.

Last, there is not much needed to log into the program, as it only requires basic computer skills to manage. Once log in, you can call another oovoo user for video chat, send an offline message and also record and send the message. It is very useful to get in touch with family members from home, which I often go long periods of time without seeing their face. It is better than text messaging and phone calls because of the personal face to face conversation between the users. This is recommended to anyone who owns a computer system , who can access the internet.
